A pleasant surprise. That's how I would describe The Coffee Barn located in Edgewater, New Jersey. What started out as a small coffee shop, has grown to now offer Korean fusion food as well. This leads to a unique flare on an otherwise quite traditional coffee shop. The asian run shop displays their culture not only through the traditional food, but also in their custom made pastries which combine both Japanese and Korean traditional flavors. The staff is very knowledgable about their products and is very helpful.
While there are plenty of positives about this coffee shop, there is one reason why I will not be going back for coffee. The Coffee Barn is not welcoming to coffee shop frequenters. Coffee shops are a place to work and meet with this friends. The Coffee Barn limits how long you are allowed to sit at a table. You are only allowed to use the table for studying or computer use for an hour. This even includes the counter space against the wall. They have come to prioritize their dining customers over their coffee customers. While I see that there may be more money in their dining customers, it takes away from the coffee drinkers who were the foundation of their business. If they want The Coffee Barn to remain a coffee shop, they definitely need to change this rule and allow at least the counter available for people to work.
